The first Sunday of Christmas marks an abrupt change from the supernatural, spectacular vision we heard on Christmas Eve straight to real life. Luke takes us to the temple 40 days after Jesus’ birth for the normal requirements of purification for Mary and the dedication of Jesus to God as the first-born son. It is important to Luke that we know that Jesus is growing up in a faithful Jewish family, to faithful Jewish parents. This story also illustrates the Hope of a new family along with the Hope of old people who have clung to God’s promises. Thank you, Jay and Charlotte for assisting in today’s worship.
