Happy New Year and welcome to the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is a separate holiday for the church, originally meant to prepare for the Second Coming. Now we observe a three-fold anticipation – the birth of Jesus, His presence in the here and now, and His triumphant return. Today’s reading tells us that the world will be transformed and there will be not doubt that Christ has returned. While we wait, live a worthwhile life.
