Epiphany marks the first time that Gentiles recognize who Jesus is. Today’s reading from Matthew contrasts the confused and scared Herod and the Gentiles who are overwhelmed with joy. The Magi made the amazing journey to find this king – not in the logical place of palace and big city – but in a tiny unnoteworthy village. This story also reminds us that faith is not a solo trip, we journey together.
