Today we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord. In the Old Testament, baptism was a means of purification, to make yourself clean before approaching the Lord in worship. Since the resurrection of Jesus, our baptism means that we repent of our sins. We are making a 180 degree turn from our old self and becoming a new person. Baptism is the visible sign of an invisible truth. The baptism of Jesus was the turning point in His ministry where He publicly embraced our very lives. Rather than shower guilt and fear upon us, Jesus provides us with comfort and acceptance.
