Pentecost has always been a Jewish festival – the Festival of First Harvest. Today Christians celebrate this as the birthday of the church. The sound of the wind and the appearance of tongues of fire announce God’s presence in a physical manner. The Holy Spirit has been active throughout all of time but after Pentecost the Holy Spirit is active in a different way. God’s plan is now set in motion – a plan where language and culture are not a barrier.
