We want you to feel comfortable at Christ Lutheran, Yakima. Here are some common questions that might help you know more about us.
What time is your worship service?
Our worship service starts at 9:30 am every Sunday and lasts about an hour. Occasionally we may take a little longer if we have a special celebration or a baptism.
Do you have Sunday School?
Sunday School will begin again with Rally Sunday, September 8, 2024. The Children's Minstry will be from 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. There will be Bible Stories, Songs, Crafts, Games, and Fellowship for PreK - 6th Grade. Also planned is a time for Middle School and High School students for Bible study and devotions.
Do you have a Nursery?
Children are a gift from God! Wiggles and giggles are welcome. We have a nursery with some toys appropriate for children ages 0-4. We also have a cry room with windows which look into the worship space. Both locations are able to hear the service through a speaker.
What happens during church worship?
As you enter the church, a greeter will give you a bulletin that outlines our worship service and lists our weekly church happenings and announcements. Please feel free to sit wherever you feel most comfortable. During the worship service, you will hear music, readings from scripture, prayer, and preaching. At times, you may be invited to stand, sing, pray, greet your neighbor, be in silence, or respond in unison. Younger children have special bulletins designed for either pre-reader or readers which collect the theme of the Bible readings of the day. Each week, we celebrate the Lord's Supper and receive communion. We trust Jesus' promise to be present in the bread and wine to gift us with forgiveness of sin. Anyone who has been baptized, trusts that Jesus is truly present in the bread and wine, and received formal instruction about the Lord's supper is welcome to commune. If this doesn't describe you, you may come forward to receive a blessing. Please do see the pastor following the service if you wish to make arrangements for First Communion. At all of our services we maintain the Christian tradition of receiving an offering to support the church's ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to live a life marked by generosity. Every gift, of any size, is valued.
What should I wear?
Generally, we are a casually dressed congregation. It is not uncommon to see Seahawk attire during football season. Some do prefer to dress up. In either case, the joy of worship is that Jesus comes to meet us and speak promises to us.
What happens after church?
It depends. Usually, we gather for coffee and refreshments. At this time, people connect with one another informally. Sometimes there is special training for leadership roles in the congregation such as reader, or worship assistant. Sometimes there may be a special celebration in honor of an anniversary or important church holiday.
Is the church handicap accessible?
Yes. There are several accessible parking spots in our parking lot, along with a sloped sidwalk. We also have an accessible restroom. Please let the church office staff know if there is any way we can better accommodate your needs.
Where should I park?
The main parking lot in front of the church off 56th Ave. leads directly into the sanctuary. You may either proceed up the steps or walk around the hill up a gentle slope to reach the main entrance. There are a few spaces on the west side of the church lot off Lincoln Ave. Head up the steps and straight down the hallway to reach the sanctuary.
