In our readings for today, Jesus identifies Himself as the Suffering Servant prophesied by Isaiah. We repeat many of these words weekly in our worship service through the Apostle’s Creed. Jesus’ suffering wasn’t the goal but was a consequence of our actions. The sacrificial goat in the Old Testament didn’t get a choice about being the sacrifice. But the Servant did.
